Greetings Everyone -

Ok, last week we promised some pictures and plenty of updates about our visit with Dema. So, the pictures will have to wait--we seem to be overwhelmed just trying to keep up with him! But, he is a great kid, very curious, and eager to try just about anything! He loved all of the rides at DelGrosso Park, especially the free-fall tower! And, as far as his eating habits go, I think he may be every mother's dream--he doesn't like sweets!(except for The Meadows frozen custard). On the first morning, his breakfast consisted of 5 eggs, 1 clove of raw garlic, a bowl full of hot pepper rings, fermented vegetables, and 1 sweet Italian pepper, and a little piccalilly. We have been told that orphanage children live on such a bland diet that their bodies crave intense flavors--raw garlic fits that bill! In three days, he has eaten 1/2 bushel of peaches, and plenty of other fruit. The representative from the orphanage told us this excessive eating is known as orphanage starvation and normally lasts 2-6 weeks after the children leave the orphanage.

HARVEST SHAK - The Harvest Shak is open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10-7. We encourage pre-orders for pick-up at the Shak, especially for prepared food items (soups, salads, quiche, meat pies, etc.) to be sure you get the items you want. For directions to The Shak click here scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the bubble in the middle of the map.

Where to find us: Tuesdays from 2-6 in Boalsburg at PA Military Museum, click on the logo above to find out more about the outdoor farmers' market If you have never visited this market it is a great way to spend an afternoon--lots of vendors and plenty of free parking. Fridays we make deliveries for pre-orders in the parking lot between Uncle Joe's Woodshed and Everything Natural in Altoona from 3:00-3:30 p.m. Orders may also be picked up at the Harvest Shak Wednesday, Fridays or Saturdays from 10-7. Please remember that orders for Tuesday/Wednesday need to be placed by noon on Monday, and Friday/Saturday orders are due by Wednesday evening.

Here's what we've got this week:

CARNIVORES CORNER:

Chicken: We will have frozen chickens available this week. Weights vary from 3-5 pounds each, please let us know what size you would like to have!

Beef: Grass Fed English Aged Angus is now available year-round.
We are taking orders for the next processing date, which should be late August. Quantities for placing an order are 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or whole portions of the animal. Extra lean hamburger is available weekly in 1 pound packages for $5 per pound. Order 10 pounds or more for $4.50 per pound. The beef comes vacuum sealed and frozen.

At this point, everything revolves around the completion of our home study which includes local, state, and federalbackground checks, finger prints, lengthy interviews, letters of recomendation, and physicals which include a full blood screen. Once they finish the work on that, we will begin working with the adoption agency in the Ukraine. We told you last week that our goal was to travel immediately after Christmas, but we just learned that the entire Ukraine basically shuts down for 1 week starting Jan 5th--the day they celebrate Christmas. So, if we want to have the adoption complete before our spring farm prep starts, we will need to travel the week beforeThanksgiving and hopefully return in time to celebrate Christmas with our families. The only "hitch" in this is that by bumping our schedule forward by 5 or 6 weeks, we need to come up with a substancial amount of funding before any of the grants we have applied for will be reviewed. So ,we are going to move forward on faith knowing that our needs will be met.

As it stands right now, it looks like Dema will be here to visit starting August 14th and staying until the 29th. We will bring him on our travels the week of the 23rd.

http://www.edenvieworganics.com/blog/6566
