Posted 6/19/2010 6:03pm by Eric.
Greetings Everyone -

This week Cindy will be in South Carolina working with a group of youth from Central Pa helping the Native Americans from the Pee Dee tribe, next week she will be back at it!

Cindy and I have decided to join a local effort that will work towards finding homes for 20 Ukranian orphans.  To check out the details, please read this weeks blog!

What's new outside??
Beets, sugar snap peas, basil, and garlic scapes!

HARVEST SHAK -
The Harvest Shak is open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10-7.  The first supply of dry goods will be in the Shak Friday and Saturday - healthy pastas, flours and sweeteners.  You'll also find whole grain sprouted pretzels - a great snack!  We encourage pre-orders, especially for prepared food items (soups, salads, quiche, meat pies, etc.) to be sure you get the items you want.  For directions to The Shak click here scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the bubble in the middle of the map.

Where to find us:  Tuesdays from 2-6 in Boalsburg at PA Military Museum, click on the logo above to find out more about the outdoor farmers' market! If you have never visited this market it is a great way to spend an afternoon--lots of vendors and plenty of free parking. Fridays we make deliviers for pre-orders in the parking lot between Uncle Joe's Woodshed and Everything Natural in Altoona from 3:00-3:30.  Orders may also be picked up at the Harvest Shak Wednesday, Fridays or Saturdays from 10-7.  Please remember that orders for Tuesday/Wednesday need to be placed by noon on Monday, and Friday/Saturday orders are due by Wednesday evening.

Here's what we've got this week:

CARNIVORES CORNER:

Chicken:
We have requested several days the week of the 5th for processing, hopefully we will have a firm date by Wednesday.  So, now is a great time to preorder to ensure you get the quantities you need!  We will be processing the first week of every month through December.

Beef:
Grass Fed English Aged Angus is now available year-round.
We are finalizing orders for this round of beef, so if you are thinking about ordering, it should be available later in July.
We are accepting orders for 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 3/4 or whole portions.  Extra lean hamburger is available weekly in 1 pound packages for $5 per pound.  Order 10 pounds or more for $4.50 per pound.  The beef comesvacuum sealed and frozen.

From the field: beets, garlic scapes, sugar snap peas, spring onions, lettuce mix, collards, kale, oregano, basil, fresh mint, chives, and fresh garlic--nearly full size heads without the individual cloves--use the whole head!

Nutty Berry Mix Granola

Meats:  Grass fed hamburger

Products from our local partners:  Free range eggs, Tait Farm jams (blackberry, raspberry, apricot butter, sour cherry), apple butter, clover honey, pure maple syrup
