4/18/2009 5:55pm by Eric

Well, the grass is green and growing...that means that we will soon have Grass fed, English Aged Black Angus!  We will start taking orders this week, but because of timing with the processor, and the time it take to English Age the beef, we anticipate your order not being ready until late May, but once we have a definate time frame set, we will let you know 3 weeks in advance.  Please note that we pick up from the processor on a Wednesday, so you will need to come here to the farm to pick up your order!  Here are some highlights from our web page, but why don't you check it out and see why this is truly a superior product!!  You will also fing information on how much you need to order.  (No tough under-fed beef that's not worth cutting steaks or roasts, and no seconds off of the dairy herd like you might find elsewhere!!!!)

Why is grass fed beef better than grain fed?

  • Grain fed beef has more Omega-6, compared to the Omega-3 in the grass fed meat. As mentioned earlier, when these two fatty acids is out of nutritional balance in a food that is consumed, it is not healthy for the body. This is a major difference between these two types of beef and tips the scale for health in the direction of grass fed.

  • Grain fed beef has a lot more saturated fat than grass fed beef. Saturated fat is, of course, a known factor in heart disease development. Reducing saturated fat in the diet is a good thing and grass fed beef can help.

  • Grain fed beef has less CLA, or Conjugated Linoleic Acid.

CLA has been shown to reduce body fat, help with weight loss, increase metabolic rate, help to lower insulin resistance and cholesterol, among other health benefits

  • Grass fed beef excels nutritionally in vitamin A, E and Beta Cartotene, over grain fed beef.

  • Grass fed beef is simply nutritionally superior to grain fed, for these reasons and many more.
